A Thesaurus gives the following syn'nyms for the term: Regeneration, Renewal and Rebirth. A good
description would be to be 'made anew' or to be 'remade'. I personally prefer the Biblical definition.
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation, the old has gone, the new has come. All this
is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ ...' 2 Cor. 5:17-18 (NIV)
It basically means that at sometime in their conscious past the authentic Christian, through faith
in Christ, responded positively to the call of God and without any personal merit received the Lord Jesus Christ
as their Saviour and Redeemer. At that moment in time their old past was taken away and they started a brand
new life, with a new outlook and new value system. This 'rebirth' is not always dramatic, but it is a definite
and drastic change. This is why the Bible says; "you must be born again". (Translators say that it can also
be translated; "you must be born from above.")
- It is a real life event.
- It is a conscious reactive and proactive event.
- It is a life-changing event.
- It is a drastic event with eternal consequences.
